| Here's some information for you that your Denfeld High School Alumni Association (DHSAA) is working on (please feel free to pass this on by word-of-mouth, MySpace, Facebook et al): 1-The long-term building closing plans the school district is having has had input from DHSAA on the importance of Denfeld remaining open. Also, there will be about four plans presented to the public on March 20th for our discussion. 2-You'll have a chance for input by replying to me about their proposal and i'll bring it to them because they want people's views. 3-The million dollar restoration of the auditorium and it's roof is complete. DHSAA is hosting a "Gala Reopening of the Auditorium Concert" on Saturday March 17th from 7:30-9:00 pm for all Denfeld alumni to come back to see. Music will be movie songs by the Arrowhead Chorale singers with Denfeld's performance choir. Come back to see how good it looks ! ($12 for adults, $6 for college students and free for high school students with their ID). | | |
| the word on the street is that xanga is not used that much anymore. i won't do "my space" because i don't think it's user friendly and i don't like all the pedophiles that have been documented to be on there. so, why don't you send me a post so that i can see if it's used anymore or not.......and lemme know how you're doing. you know i'll reply. | | |
| I understand why the Beach Boys named one album "Endless Summer". This has been a good summer full of house repairs (i think you've got to own your own home before this sounds good), slothful living just loafing alot and sleeping more than I do during the school year and best of all, having the twins with me all the time (and ALL the beauty that goes with that, too. thank you God for sending them to me) ! Basicly, living the E-Z life. I think retirement will be fun!
However, I'm lucky to like my job, too and I'm preparing curriculum for a new year that i'm pleased about (i wish you the good fortune to like your career jobs...it makes life so much easier/fun). i'm also looking forward to that awesome september rush of pennant-race baseball, pro and college football plus, nhl training camp. it's also hard to beat those first few denfeld football games at pss with all the new seniors pumped to be down front and in charge for the first time, seeing teachers and especially all the alumni that come out to those games that i haven't seen for awhile.
well, time to squeeze in more summer. done.
| Sorry about my lack of updates, but this was the worst year of my career (the only bad one in 19). Between fighting the new administrators and some faculty about the importance of traditions at Denfeld, a rising poverty rate and all the socio-economic classroom/building issues that accompany that (41% poverty rate at DHS, over 50% at Morgan Park, over 70% at Lincoln...thank God for Piedmont....and an alarming 36% rate across all the Duluth school district). The fighting consumed the whole year. In addition, your DHSAA is running into trouble raising money to send out your first alumnus newsletter. Then, my father died. A long year.
On a positive note, after a TON of alumni support and meetings with building and district administrators, the issues were resolved to the mutual satisfaction of all parties. In addition, I'm with my children all the time (so I'm not after school very much), watching them in karate (good flashbacks to my karate days) a couple days a week, threw a big 10th birthday party for them, still get along well with the ex-wife (key with little kids especially), spend more time with my mother (after 53 years of marraige, I'm checking on her more to make sure she's adapting to my dad being gone) becoming a member of the "oreo generation" in the last year (taking care of your children and parents...ie- being inbetween). Lest we forget, there's the Stanley Cup playoffs this year.
Now, summer. Ahhhhhhh! I'll be busy doing those little projects you wait to do until you're on vacation, reading (I do that year 'round anyway), dad-stuff and catching up on correspondences. Lemme know how you are doing, sister/brother hunter!

| Instead of putting this out in cyberspace, send me your email address and I'll IMMEADIATELY send you a letter detailing how Denfeld, it's students, it's parents, it's alumni and I need your help today.
We need your letter, and that of any other alumni you know, by March 29th. (for ethical reasons, only alumni may reply...sorry ' 06, '07 et al, but you'll be helped by it all)
